Mysticism
The concept of reincarnation has rich global history dating back to the 9th century BC. In its most simple and most popular form, reincarnation is the process whereby the soul, after death, is born anew on earth. This process continues lifetime after lifetime until the soul is purified and liberated from the cycle of rebirth. While this core concept remains relatively similar, the nuances of reincarnation differ from tradition to tradition. Differences are seen in Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Egyptian mystery schools, and Neo-Platonism, including the reasons, the mechanics, and even the subject of reincarnation. The true common thread is that there is continuity of experience after ‘death.’
